On 24 February 2018, Msgr Paul McPartlan was the keynote speaker at the Archdiocese of Chicago's celebration of the 50th anniversary of the decision to restore the permanent diaconate in the USA. Chicago ordained its first permanent deacons early in the 1970s and has ordained well over a thousand since that time. Msgr McPartlan spoke on "Exploring the Diaconate".
